The UA&P Hallmark Programs
Last September 22, 2000 was the People Development Day of the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P). It was highlighted with a program that became a gathering of the high ranking personalities the university has like the UA&P president, Dr. Mario D. Camacho; the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Antonio Torralba; the Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Josemaria Mariano; and the program director of the People Development, Mr. Jun Papelleras. Dr. Antonio Torralba discussed the UA&P hallmark programs which I am going to tackle throughout this paper. The word hallmark means a distinguishing characteristic sign, trait, or feature that makes one unique. In the case of the UA&P, it has three hallmark programs which are namely: values education; people development; and research and communication. In the field of values education, the UA&P is committed to teach its students with the right and proper values and attitudes that will help not only for the betterment of the society but also for their common good. As a matter of fact, the university offers courses in social and professional system of moral values. With this, the UA&P aims to develop students with discipline, diligence, spirit of enterprise, integrity, social solidarity, and universal outlook. The second hallmark program of the UA&P is the people development. In this field, the university students are trained to be: environmentally aware in our surroundings; cooperative to others; values oriented; concern to their health and to the proper food nutrition; saves for mobilization; and properly educated persons. The UA&P believes that through these six programs of people development, the students will achieve its fullest potential as a well being. The last hallmark program of the UA&P is the research and communication which is the foundational aims of its forerunner, the Center for Research and Communication. It is said that the UA&P continues its researches with the humanistic, professional, scientific and technical knowledge for the common good of the society. The university, through research and communication, aims to be a tool for the upliftment of the moral and social status of society. Truly, the UA&P makes a difference through its three major hallmark programs as compare to the other universities and institution in the land. And that makes the UA&P unique and one of a kind. Gay Marriage Should Be Legal Essay - 1786 Words
Gay Marriage Introduction Gay marriage, often used interchangeably with same-sex marriage, has in recent years grown from an issue that arose in a few states, to an issue of national concern (The Pew Research Center, 2009). The height of the controversy generated by gay marriage is embodied in the fact that it has not only dominated the halls of the US congress, the White House, the corridors of justice, and several State legislative assemblies over the past five years, but also the rhetoric characterizing national election campaigns, both at the state and national levels (The Pew Research Center, 2009). But what exactly is the issue of contention regarding gay marriage? The controversy surrounding gay marriage revolves around the question as to whether gays and lesbians should be allowed to marry each other. It is further fueled by political undertones that according to Jouet (2012) emanate from the decision by President Obama to support gay marriage. Generally, proponents of gay marriage argue that it is u nfair, unequal, and unconstitutional to bar gay marriage, while opponents, on the other hand, argue that gay marriage is unnatural and against religion. This paper argues against gay marriage based on religion, the institution of marriage, the law of procreation, and its negative impact on children. My Experience With Attending An Elite - 1536 Words
My Experience with Attending an A.A. and Alanon Meeting As a part of our class assignment we were presented with the idea of attending an A.A. and an Alanon meeting. After attending these meetings, I found that they were more interesting than I could have imagined. I am not quite sure what I expected, but the environment held a serene spirit that I normally encounter at church. I attributed this fact, to the point that the name of God was called on often and the people were singing his praises. Observing and listening to how people referenced or acknowledged his presence helped them to refrain from drinking was just awesome. In this paper, I will describe the environment where the meeting took place, how the meeting was brought to order and its format, and the insight it provided me being a future counselor who will have to make referrals. I participated in an AA and an Alanon meeting this week at the 623 club in Belleville, IL. I was privy to attending the Alanon meeting first due to the nature of my schedule. The facility where the meeting was held looked like a restaurant. I say that because it was set up like an eating establishment with tables and chairs throughout the room accordingly. A lady who was a part of the meeting supplied drinks, such as water, tea, soda and coffee from where she stood behind a counter. Nevertheless, the meeting itself took place at the center table and it was about thirteen of us on that day. Police Enforcement And The Civil Rights - 907 Words
Individuals who decide to become law enforcement officers take on a huge role before their community. By doing so, these individuals take an oath of honor before officially exercising their police powers. When police officers are sworn, they vow to support, obey, and defend the Constitution of the United States (ââ¬Å"Law Enforcement, 2013). Moreover, once they become police officers, they are held at great ethical and professional standards. Unfortunately, there has been occasions when certain law enforcement officials become problematic for an agency. In the early 80ââ¬â¢s, the United States Commission on Civil Rights endorsed all agencies to create early warning systems that would identify warning indicators of officer misconduct (Burns, R., 2009). Problematic officers who are not reprimanded for their actions at an early period could potentially result in several negative penalties towards the reputations of the agency they work for. It is in the best interest for all law enforcement agencies to provide early detection indicators that would identify such individuals. In contrast, agencies who do not offer such system faced a risk of having problematic officers go undetected. Certain incidents land in the news, even on national media. At this point, the public may begin to distrust the administration of the agency and those wear the badge. Even worse, law enforcement agencies in some cases become the center of criticism. Yet, the percentage of problematic officersShow MoreRelatedCivil Liability and Private Police Essay1356 Words à |à 6 PagesCivil Liability and Private Police Civil Liability and Private Police The police forcesââ¬â¢ assignment - to preserve order and peace - is an unsubstantiated one convoluted by innumerable factors that appear exceptional to all situations officers have to manage, whether controlling a commotion or arresting suspects. Human Cloning Essay Thesis Example For Students
Human Cloning Essay Thesis Human Cloningâ⬠¦Most people panic when they hear the words ââ¬Å"Human Cloningâ⬠. Crazy thoughts run through their heads, imaginations run wild. They think of the world being run over by a million little Hitlerââ¬â¢s. They think of people thinking exactly like one another, and that no person would be different. And for some reason because of cloning, the world, as we know it will cease to exist. Cloning to some people is even considered ââ¬Å"evil.â⬠Most religious people believe that it is ââ¬Å"Playing Godâ⬠, they think that mankind is not supposed to have this power. Cloning, however, is not a magical way of creating life. It is a scientific procedure that will save many lives, cure diseases and let infertile couples have biological children of their own. Many mammals have already been cloned successfully and lead normal lives. The clone will not be the exact same person as the donor. They will look alike and have the same genes, but they will not talk, think, or act alike. In fact, if someone attempted to clone Hitler they might end up with a moderately talented artist. Neither will the clone start off at the same age as the donor. If the donor is 35 the clone will start off as a normal baby. The benefits of human cloning are many. One of the most crucial problems in the world is finding organ donors that have compatible organs with the person that needs them. If there is a patient with a very rare blood type, chances are that they will die before they find a match. Using cloning technology, you can clone a personââ¬â¢s organs, grow them, and then use them for a transplant. The organ is guaranteed to be 100% compatible with the patient. This procedure could save millions upon millions of lives. I can not understand how anyone could say that we have ââ¬Å"A moral obligation to ban cloningâ⬠when it could save millions of peopleââ¬â¢s lives. I am sure if it was them lying on their deathbed, they would be screaming, ââ¬Å"Clone my kidneys!â⬠Another benefit is that using cloning technology otherwise infertile couples will be able to have their very own biological children. To do this you do not need viable sperm or egg, any cell will do. There are 12,000 infertile people in the U.S. alone. One of the most common reasons for suicide, divorce and depression is infertility. There are other options for infertile people, but they are painful, costly, and have a very low success rate. Besides, how would you like some other woman giving birth to your child using artificial insemination? Just think about it, cloning is the best scientific discovery since penicillin. Cloning technology can help ââ¬Å"perfectâ⬠gene therapy, the actual correction or replacement of defective gene sequences. Gene therapy is currently limited because of inefficient vectors, or viruses that convey new genes into cells. A copy of a defective gene is in every cell of the body. These viruses must infect every one of these cells and replace the defective genes with the normal genes. However, these vectors only infect a small amount of cells. This deems gene therapy inefficient. Human cloning can change this. Scientists can determine which cells received the desired gene alteration using fluorescent tags; the cells that were affected would glow. Cloning technology would allow scientists to take a cell that had its genome modified and use it to produce an offspring. The resulting child and its descendants would carry the corrected gene in every cell. Cloning technology may be able cure Tay-Sachs disease, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, Huntingtonââ¬â¢s disease and countless others. Cloning, is a new procedure, and like every new procedure there are some risks. That is why the government should fund human cloning research. .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e , .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e .postImageUrl , .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e , .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e:hover , .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e:visited , .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e:active { border:0!important; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e:active , .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf34dfbb496f05b55e5985535ce86ab5e:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Dar Stamp Act Essay Human cloning is in no way perfected at this time, but without government support more people will continue to die. People will not be able to have biological children and parents will continue to pass down diseases from one generation to the next. Human cloning should be regulated, not banned. The government is the only thing standing in the way of perfected human cloning. Even without government consent scientists will establish secret laboratories and human cloning centers. Some even believe that this kind of research is going on now. Gene therapy is another new science that can help millions of people, but without cloning it will take far more years and countless more lives before it is perfected. The federal government should regulate human cloning. Banning it would deprive many beneficial treatments from people who need it. I have mentioned only a few of cloning technologyââ¬â¢s significant benefits. Cloning technology can lead to a better understanding of cell differentiation. This would allow biologist to produce tissues and organs for transplant. Cloning can help carriers of genetic defects to have healthy children. It can even help to completely eradicate genetic mutations and defects. Treatment of infertility is one of its most promising benefits. Cloning technology can help infertile people to have their own children; one of lifeââ¬â¢s most powerful biological drives. Besides, ethical implications involved in human cloning are only temporary. They are induced by misconception. Education will change peopleââ¬â¢s negative attitude towards human cloning. If we give human cloning a chance, it will most likely become a part of our daily lives. Of unity and religion Essay Example For Students
Of unity and religion Essay RELIGION being the chief band of human society, is a happy thing, when itself is well contained within the true band of unity. The quarrels, and divisions about religion, were evils unknown to the heathen. The reason was, because the religion of the heathen, consisted rather in rites and ceremonies, than in any constant belief. For you may imagine, what kind of faith theirs was, when the chief doctors, and fathers of their church, were the poets. But the true God hath this attribute, that he is a jealous God; and therefore, his worship and religion, will endure no mixture, nor partner. We shall therefore speak a few words, concerning the unity of the church; what are the fruits thereof; what the bounds; and what the means. The fruits of unity next unto the well pleasing of God, which is all in all are two: the one, towards those that are without the church, the other, towards those that are within. For the former; it is certain, that heresies, and schisms, are of all others the greatest scandals; yea, more than corruption of manners. For as in the natural body, a wound, or solution of continuity, is worse than a corrupt humor; so in the spiritual. So that nothing, doth so much keep men out of the church and drive men out of the church, as breach of unity. And therefore, whensoever it cometh to that pass, that one saith, Ecce in deserto, another saith, Ecce in penetralibus; that is, when some men seek Christ in the conventicles of heretics, and others, in an outward face of a church, that voice had need continually to sound in mens ears, Nolite exire, Go not out. The doctor of the Gentiles the propriety of whose vocation, drew him to have a special care of those without saith, If an heathen come in, and hear you speak with several tongues, will he not say that you are mad? And certainly it is little better, when atheists, and profane persons, do hear of so many discordant, and contrary opinions in religion; it doth avert them from the church, and maketh them, to sit down in the chair of the scorners. It is but a light thing, to be vouched in so serious a matter, but yet it expresseth well the deformity. There is a master of scoffing, that in his catalogue of books of a feigned library, sets down this title of a book, The morris-dance of heretics. For indeed, every sect of them, hath a diverse posture, or cringe by themselves, which cannot but move derision in worldlings, and depraved politics, who are apt to contemn holy things. As for the fruit towards those that are within; it is peace; which containeth infinite blessings. It establisheth faith; it kindleth charity; the outward peace of the church, distilleth into peace of conscience; and it turneth the labors of writing, and reading of controversies, into treaties of mortification and devotion. Concerning the bounds of unity; the true placing of them, importeth exceedingly. There appear to be two extremes. For to certain zealants, all speech of pacification is odious. Is it peace, Jehu? What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. Peace is not the matter, but following, and party. Contrariwise, certain Laodiceans, and lukewarm persons, think they may accommodate points of religion, by middle way, and taking part of both, and witty reconcilements; as if they would make an arbitrament between God and man. Both these extremes are to be avoided; which will be done, if the league of Christians, penned by our Savior himself, were in two cross clauses thereof, soundly and plainly expounded: He that is not with us, is against us; and again, He that is not against us, is with us; that is, if the points fundamental and of substance in religion, were truly discerned and distinguished, from points not merely of faith, but of opinion, order, or good intention. This is a thing may seem to many a matter trivial, and done already. But if it were done less partially, it would be embraced more generally. .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 , .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 .postImageUrl , .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 , .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6:hover , .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6:visited , .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6:active { border:0!important; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6:active , .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6 .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .udae3ddbdc370d7fdef8228d72da86fb6:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Timothy Zahn is one of Science Fiction's most reno EssayOf this I may give only this advice, according to my small model. Men ought to take heed, of rending Gods church, by two kinds of controversies. The one is, when the matter of the point controverted, is too small and light, not worth the heat and strife about it, kindled only by contradiction. For, as it is noted, by one of the fathers, Christs coat indeed had no seam, but the churchs vesture was of divers colors; whereupon he saith, In veste varietas sit, scissura non sit: they be two things, unity and uniformity. The other is, when the matter of the point controverted, is great, but it is driven to an over-great subtilty, and obscurity; so that it becometh a thing rather ingenious, than substantial. A man that is of judgment and understanding, shall sometimes hear ignorant men differ, and know well within himself, that those which so differ, mean one thing, and yet they themselves would never agree. And if it come so to pass, in that distance of judgment, which is between man and man, shall we not think that God above, that knows the heart, doth not discern that frail men, in some of their contradictions, intend the same thing; and accepteth of both? The nature of such controversies is excellently expressed, by St. Paul, in the warning and precept, that he giveth concerning the same, Devita profanas vocum novitates, et oppositiones falsi nominis scientiÃÆ'ÃâÃâà ¦. Men create oppositions, which are not; and put them into new terms, so fixed, as whereas the meaning ought to govern the term, the term in effect governeth the meaning. There be also two false peaces, or unities: the one, when the peace is grounded, but upon an implicit ignorance; for all colors will agree in the dark: the other, when it is pieced up, upon a direct admission of contraries, in fundamental points. For truth and falsehood, in such things, are like the iron and clay, in the toes of Nebuchadnezzars image; they may cleave, but they will not incorporate. Concerning the means of procuring unity; men must beware, that in the procuring, or muniting, of religious unity, they do not dissolve and deface the laws of charity, and of human society. There be two swords amongst Christians, the spiritual and temporal; and both have their due office and place, in the maintenance of religion. But we may not take up the third sword, which is Mahomets sword, or like unto it; that is, to propagate religion by wars, or by sanguinary persecutions to force consciences; except it be in cases of overt scandal, blasphemy, or intermixture of practice against the state; much less to nourish seditions; to authorize conspiracies and rebellions; to put the sword into the peoples hands; and the like; tending to the subversion of all government, which is the ordinance of God. For this is but to dash the first table against the second; and so to consider men as Christians, as we forget that they are men. Lucretius the poet, when he beheld the act of Agamemnon, that could endure the sacrificing of his own daughter, exclaimed: Tantum religio potuit suadere malorum. What would he have said, if he had known of the massacre in France, or the powder treason of England? He would have been seven times more Epicure, and atheist, than he was. For as the temporal sword is to be drawn with great circumspection in cases of religion; so it is a thing monstrous, to put it into the hands of the common people. Let that be left unto the Anabaptists, and other furies. It was great blasphemy, when the devil said, I will ascend and be like the Highest; but it is greater blasphemy, to personate God, and bring him in saying, I will descend, and be like the prince of darkness; and what is it better, to make the cause of religion to descend, to the cruel and execrable actions of murthering princes, butchery of people, and subversion of states and governments? Surely this is to bring down the Holy Ghost, instead of the likeness of a dove, in the shape of a vulture or raven; and set, out of the bark of a Christian church, a flag of a bark of pirates, and assassins. .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 , .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 .postImageUrl , .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 , .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641:hover , .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641:visited , .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641:active { border:0!important; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641:active , .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641 .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uc0b41582c32f504495b4aec7e24dc641:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Detroit Institute of Arts EssayTherefore it is most necessary, that the church, by doctrine and decree, princes by their sword, and all learnings, both Christian and moral, as by their Mercury rod, do damn and send to hell for ever, those facts and opinions tending to the support of the same; as hath been already in good part done. Surely in counsels concerning religion, that counsel of the apostle would be prefixed, Ira hominis non implet justitiam Dei. And it was a notable observation of a wise father, and no less ingenuously confessed: That those which held and persuaded pressure of consciences, were commonly interessed therein themselves for their own ends.
